More about the event…
During National Military Family Month, I Care San Antonio will proudly announce their expanded veteran's initiative; All Star Eye Care for Veterans and Their Families - dedicated to helping low-income and homeless veterans and their immediate family members access complete eye care including medical, surgical and optical ...because when one member joins the military the whole family serves. Along with support and a powerful message from special guest, former U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta, I Care San Antonio will share the need to further reduce coverage gaps for veterans and their families by announcing the program's goal of easing the financial burden and stress veterans and their families endure when faced with military separation, civilian transition and caregiver demands.
A bit about our keynote speaker:
A brave leader, former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Sal Giunta is the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War. He was introduced by President Barack Obama as being “as humble as he is courageous” when he was presented with our nation’s highest military decoration for his heroic actions during combat in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan. In 2017, he offered his Medal of Honor to his brigade, stating that it doesn't belong to him alone, but to all the men and women who served alongside him. A true American hero and the author of Living with Honor, Giunta shares with audiences his story of unwavering courage, the importance of teamwork, service before self and leadership in the face of overwhelming circumstances.
